6 plants that help to stimulate hair growth

Hair growth is one of the most discussed subjects of hair care and it is no secret that every woman dreams of having healthier, thicker hair! There is no denying that nature has been a source of beauty solutions since the beginning of time. If you love natural stuff and enjoy concocting a natural hair growth treatment every once in a while, plants are a natural way to treat a variety of ailments from an uneven complexion to a dry scalp.

Plants can also aid in your hair growth hair goals! Take a look at this list of six amazing plants you can use for your hair growth treatments.

1. Aloe Vera

Widely known for its amazing ability to aid hair growth, treat dandruff and keep scalp properly moisturized and balanced, aloe vera is one of those versatile plants that you can use with no worries! The enzymes in aloe vera dissolve dead skin cells and excess sebum which can clog hair follicles and aloe gel is an excellent moisturiser due to its super hydrating properties and helps to restore the pH balance of the scalp which helps to encourage growth. Aloe also contains salicylic acid, an anti-inflammatory and mild antibiotic.  For these reasons, aloe vera is one of the best carriers for other herbal remedies that promote hair growth.

2. Rosemary

Rosemary is vitamin-rich, anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, and by far one of the most popular and effective herbs for scalp health and hair growth. This great-smelling plant can slow down premature hair loss and help you have the thick, long hair of your dreams. It stimulates roots, soothes an irritated scalp, conditions and moisturises your hair. Often used as an oil, either combined with olive oil or by itself, it can help with circulation to aid in growth. It has the added bonus of stopping premature greying too.

3. Gingko Biloba

Besides being one of the most praised anti-ageing herbs, Ginko can be used as a natural hair growth treatment too This plant is known to stimulate blood flow and improve circulation. It can help with increasing the blood flow follicles need to encourage new growth at the root level, while helping your tissues get all the oxygen they need to function properly thus speeding up your metabolism and boosting your immunity and hair growth. It can also be taken as a supplement and is especially useful for people suffering from deficiencies that affect the follicle.

4. Peppermint

Peppermint is another plant that offers healing to the scalp to help with growth. It not only moisturizes and soothes an irritated scalp but also stimulates hair follicles. A healthy scalp is the bedrock of hair growth so don’t underestimate herbs that work solely to heal the scalp as a means of growth. It is often used as an oil applied directly to the scalp, but may also be consumed as a tea. The moisturizing oil contained in peppermint leaves is anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory.  When applied to the scalp, peppermint oil can help to heal chemical, microbial, or environmental damage while also stimulating growth by boosting circulation and stimulating hair follicles.

5. Horsetail

Mineral-rich horsetail is a hugely popular natural solution for promoting hair growth and a healthy scalp.  It works by stimulating blood vessels that supply oxygen to hair follicles.  It is known to improve the strength of hair, as well as bones, thanks to the ingredient silica. It also helps to make hair less brittle to retain hair which is great for hair loss. It can be taken as a supplement or used in a product that already has it as an ingredient. Also, it contains quercetin, a flavonoid with anti-allergy and anti-viral capabilities. Although it is one of the lesser known plants, it is actually one of the most widely used in hair products.

6. Lavender

This popular plant has antibacterial properties so it will leave the scalp free of anything getting in the way of generating growth. Lavender oil stimulates circulation in the scalp, strengthens new hair growth, and helps to balance the natural oil production of the scalp, making it a popular choice for people of all skin types. If your scalp has a lot of parasites, fungus, or other less than desirable things, it will be almost impossible for growth to take place. As an added bonus, lavender oil is also a natural insect repellant which can ward off disease-carrying parasites like fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and head lice.

Rules that you should follow to keep hair clean

A beautiful head of hair is your crowning glory. But for many of us, that crown is not so glorious. In fact, it’s downright thin, brittle, dry, and damaged. Furthermore, the more often you wash your hair, the faster it becomes greasy. So, if you’re looking to restore shine, strength, and thickness to your hair, follow these golden rules of hair care. Your tresses will look good-to-go again in no time!

1. Apply shampoo the right way

Water temperature should be comfortable for you. Stand in the shower for a minute and make sure your hair is already wet. Squeeze out some shampoo – about the size of a large coin – onto your hands and rub them together. Apply the shampoo onto your head in a circular motion, moving from the top of your head to the bottom. Rinsing takes more time than applying, and it is recommended that you wash out the shampoo for 5 minutes. Left and dried shampoo particles can cause dull hair colour and even the appearance of dandruff. It is also recommended to rinse hair with cold water in the end. This will lead to the strengthening of hair cuticles and your hair will be able to keep in more moisture and appear shinier.

2. Rest your hair

Remember, your hair needs a rest too. Care for your hair by giving it a break for a couple days each week. And while it’s nice to have your tresses out of the way, it’s important to give hair a rest from ponytails, braids, and chignons. These tight hairstyles cause “traction” – tugging or pulling – on your hair, and can traumatize the hair and contribute to hair loss if used too much.

3. Minimise wet hair

Water makes hair swell from the inside, which forces the cuticle up. When that happens over and over again, you get frizz and breakage. Don’t wash your hair more than you have to. Skip a day of washing whenever you can. You can also embrace a dry shampoo that’s a hard-core oil and odour absorber so as to remove grease and sweat from your hair rather than just coating it with powder. In addition, dry shampoo should be used before working out so that it can absorb all the sweat produced during a workout.

4. Have a pillowcase schedule

It’s very pleasant for us and useful for hair to sleep on clean pillows. As time passes, pillowcases absorb epidermal cells and old makeup and it creates an enabling environment for bacteria. To support our skin and hair health, we need to change pillowcases at least once a week. And if your hair is greasy, it’s better that you do it twice a week.

5. Make your own hair lemonade

Applying lemon to your hair helps to fight against excessive greasiness, keep your hair fresh and voluminous, and create natural shine. It’s very easy to prepare it. Simply mix juice squeezed out of one lemon with one litre of water and rinse your hair with this mixture. It’s recommended to pour it slowly and massage your hair roots with one hand.

6. Style the smart way

We all know that heat styling tools can wreak havoc on hair, leaving it brittle and lifeless. But beauty calls. And there are ways to combat and prevent unnecessary damage from heat styling. For a start, you can try to reduce the amount of time spent with a hot hair dryer pointed at your head, by blotting your hair with a towel after the shower. Be careful not to rub, as this can exacerbate frizz. Then, take some paper towels and blot again. You’ll be shocked at how much excess moisture you can soak up this way, and your blowout time will be cut in half. Before blowing dry, curling, or straightening, your hair, be sure to use a protective spray. When drying, keep your hair dryer on a cooler setting and a lower velocity. The same goes for straightening and curling. It’ll take a bit more time to get the look that you want, but your follicles will thank you in the long run.

Exercises for the hair

Scalp exercises can be natural and holistic ways to improve your hair health while encouraging hair growth. As with other forms of exercises, doing scalp exercises do not require expensive equipment and can be done anytime at your own comfort. Scalp exercises can range from stimulating the entire scalp with one movement to concentrating on individual sections at one time.

Performing these exercises daily can help you obtain the healthy-looking head of hair you desire. The increased blood flow and lymph fluid dislodges and removes waste products, which may otherwise contribute to inflammation in scalp tissue.  An inflamed and irritated scalp offers a poor environment for healthy hair growth. Exercise has a stimulating effect on areas adjacent to the muscles being worked, and positively influences the hair cycle, keeping the hair follicles in the growing stage for longer and in the resting stage for a shorter period.

Scalp exercises help slow down the ageing process in the hair follicles. We share with you some simple scalp exercises that you can do to improve your hair quality.

1. Scalp Relaxation

Scalp laxity exercises can help reduce hair loss by relaxing your scalp. Do the laxity exercise any time you are concerned about hair loss. Sit upright in a firm chair. Lift your arms while opening your hands. Place your hands onto the back of your scalp. Clasp your fingers together. Do not touch your thumbs together. Slowly start moving your scalp up and down. Do not move your fingers. Keep moving your scalp 20 times. Remove your hands. Relax 10 seconds. Repeat this exercise 10 times.

2. Side Scalp Manoeuvre

Relax your scalp by doing a side scalp laxity exercise. Sit upright in a firm chair. Place your hands onto the sides of your head. Each palm will be above the same side ear. Straighten your fingers, but do not clasp them together. Slowly start moving your scalp up and down. Do not move your fingers. Move your scalp for two minutes. Remove your hands. Relax for 10 seconds. Repeat this exercise 10 times.

3. Head Knock Massage

Head knock massage is an Indonesian massage technique. Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart. Maintain relaxed breathing throughout this exercise. Slowly lower your upper body by bending at the waist. Allow your spine to bend, or curve. Bend until your head is slightly below waist level. Keep your legs straight. Bend your fingers to the second knuckle. Place the knuckle of your index finger onto your scalp. Start to gently tap your scalp with your knuckle. Use other knuckles for variety, if desired. Cover your entire scalp, including the front, back, sides and lobe area. Tap the hair area. Perform the knuckle massage for 30 seconds. Stop and return your body to the standing position. Relax for 10 seconds. Repeat this scalp massage exercise while standing up.

4. Circular Massage

Reduce hair loss by performing a circular massage exercise. Stand upright with your feet shoulder-width apart. Place two drops of vitamin E or rosemary oil onto your scalp, if desired. Use your fingertips to gently begin massaging your scalp. Start on your scalp’s right side. Work small portions of your scalp at one time. Use circular motions. Use clockwise motions for the first three minutes. Reverse the direction by using anticlockwise circular motions for the next two minutes. Be certain to massage your entire scalp area up to the hairline. Do not use your fingernails since this will damage your scalp. Massage your scalp for five minutes daily.

Healthy habits for healthy hair

No one is immune to the depressing effects of bad hair. Most people think that it’s the fault of their DNA when their hair loses its lustre. Unfortunately, bad genes are only one thing people can inherit from parents. Health, diet, and even things you do to your hair frequently can also be as damaging to hair as genetics. You will be glad to know that unlocking the secret to having effortless, perfect hair is pretty much equivalent to discovering the eighth new wonder of the world. We all deserve to have fabulous looking hair, and yes, we all can. With the below healthy habits that you can adopt, you will be able to improve the volume and vibrancy of your hair naturally, giving you the confidence that you need!

1. Eat enough protein, vitamins and minerals

One of the key ingredients to having great hair is a balanced diet. Since a strand of hair is composed primarily of protein, it needs protein to grow. Some of the greatest sources of protein can be found in chicken, turkey, fish, dairy products, legumes, and nuts. Besides stocking up on the protein, there are other vitamins you should make sure you’re taking, whether through food or supplements. A daily intake of iron, vitamin D, zinc, and B-complex vitamins will improve the health of your hair.

2. Avoid tying your hair too often

Tying your hair to the back consistently over a period of time can cause a constant tension that damages the hair follicles of your hair. But sometimes you just have no choice. We suggest that you can try tying your hair looser and never tie your hair while it’s wet, as that is the time when your hair is weakest. You can try using metal-free elastic bands to help prevent hair breakage.

3. Brush the right way

Believe it or not, there is actually a right way to brush your hair. In fact, some things to avoid when brushing hair are brushing from the root to the tip, as this rips hair out of the follicle; brushing when wet; brushing too often; using the wrong brush, as you should be using natural boar bristles which are gentler and better at distributing oils, and using dirty brushes that get clogged up with stray hairs and product build up.

4. Dry your hair right

Be careful not to blow dry your hair too soon. Since hair is less elastic when it is wet, it will be more prone to breaking from the tug of the brush. The last bit of moisture in your hair is what provides the set, so you can start blow drying a little bit to get the excess water out, let your hair air dry until it is about 80% dry, and then style as needed. One exception for those with those extra coarse, curly, or dry locks, is to let the hair air dry to only 25 to 50% to avoid that frizz. And always remember to use extra caution when drying it with a towel because of its extra sensitivity.

5. Trim when necessary

Getting regular trims keep the hair looking healthy and prevent splits from working their way up strands, which would cause you to chop off even more hair down the road. Do remember, avoiding the salon is actually counterproductive to growing out your hair. The ends are drying and splitting, so you’re not getting the length. Regular trims ensure minimal split ends or breakage, and a trim is recommended every six to eight weeks. So snip away!

6. Shampoo sparingly

Over-washing will remove too much oil from the scalp and dry out strands, despite how gentle of a shampoo you could be using. In fact, most women need to shampoo only three times a week — and less often if their hair is on the dry side. Also bear in mind that less frequent washing will also mean not as much blow-drying, which is another culprit of parching and destroying your hair.

Why you should not go to bed with wet hair

At the end of a long tiring day, it is just too easy to take a hot shower, put on your pyjamas, brush your teeth, and hit the sack right away. However, have you ever thought about the risks of sleeping with wet hair? We have all been there, at least once. While leaving your hair washing to the night before might seem like the best option, you should take note of the below reasons why you should not do so.

1. It could cause severe hair breakage

The hair is at its weakest when wet, so it will not be surprising to hear that you will be increasing the amount of breakage by leaving your hair wet and head to bed. As you toss and turn, friction can cause the hair to break more easily than if it was dry. Well, it may not be better to think of leaving your hair to air dry while you sleep than blow dry it beforehand.

2. You spend more time styling your hair

Yes, the term ‘bed head’ exists for a reason. When you sleep, your hair is twisted into all sorts of strange styles, and if it is drying while you sleep, it will set that way too. Usually, the worst affected areas are the crown of your head and the ends. The only way to smooth out your hair is to spend a lot of time trying to restyle, either by re-wetting it, using heat tools or suffocating it with aerosols and gels. You end up using tools anyway even when you are trying to avoid using them.

3. It can cause dandruff

You will be shocked to know that the warmth of your head and the prolonged dampness of your hair will cause bacteria and fungi to multiply on your scalp, as well as on your pillow. Sleeping with damp hair will also strip the natural oils away from your hair as they are absorbed by the pillow’s fabric along with the excess moisture. The combination of bacteria growth and the loss of natural oils will make your scalp more likely to develop dandruff.

4. Your hair may lose its shine

When the water from your hair is absorbed into the pillow’s fabric, the natural oils are taken too. Your hair will look dull and dehydrated without the presence of these oils. Furthermore, dehydrated hair is much more likely to break. Remember, there is a big difference between hair that is dry to the touch and hair that is dehydrated of natural oils.

5. Bacterial growth

Your pillows could be harbouring a dirty secret. It is the combination of water and warmth that can encourage rapid growth of bacteria. The warmth from your head will make the damp pillow the perfect breeding ground for harmful bacteria and mould. You might think that changing your bedsheets frequently will help, but the dampness from your hair will have penetrated into the pillow.

6. It can cause hair loss

Going to bed with wet hair can result in hair loss and, more specifically, the occurrence of scalp ringworm besides encouraging bacterial growth. Scalp ringworm is a type of fungal infection, caused by warm and damp conditions. If you are infected, do take extra precaution as this is highly contagious. You’ll need to take care to wash anything and everything that has come into contact with your scalp. We would rather grow long hair than lose hair!

If you have been already been doing this, it’s time to kick this habit and treat your damaged hair with Oriental Hair Solutions’s Hair Growth Scalp Therapy with Cold Light Laser treatment of the month. Tips to encourage hair growth

Having long silky and luscious hair is everyone’s dream. It is simply one of the best parts of our body and changes our appearance in every way. Seeing our hair go thinner and noticing those balding patterns grow bigger and bigger is an absolute horror for almost any man or woman, especially the young.

The hair needs to hydrate in order to grow and stay fit. Most of the time, we tend not to look into this, as we’re busy and we just want results as soon as possible. More often than not, we may be using heat appliances which can cause damage to our hair. Furthermore, we don’t even moisturize them.

Whether you’re growing out a bad haircut, longing for mermaid-length hair, or recovering from a season of hair loss, you’re probably looking for ways to help make your hair grow. Let us look at some tips that help to encourage hair growth.

1. Eat for good hair health

One of the best ways you can get faster hair growth is by eating a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that help encourage scalp health and hair strength. A big bonus of eating a diet rich in vitaminsfor hair health also means that you’re eating for body health.

Some nutrients that you should load up on when trying to grow long locks include Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Zinc, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Iron.

2. Drink enough water

Eating healthily alone is not enough, you need to make sure your body has enough water. Water is necessary to assist the cells in staying active for growth and reproduction. Once the cells are dehydrated, they die, and hence our hair, skin, and organs lose the capacity to stay fit. This is also the reason why your hair may start breaking. To avoid this, the first thing is to keep hydrated to help both the interior organs and the skin, since this also affects the hair texture. You can start with consuming 6-8 glasses of water every day and cut down caffeine and soda drinks.

3. Get sufficient sleep

We need eight to ten hours of sleep every day. It helps our body relax and keeps it healthy. When a person gets insufficient sleep, the entire body gets affected, such that it gets dehydrated and very much stressed out. This may also be the cause of hair loss. Sleep helps to reduce stress and helps healthy cell growth and also, repairs the cells.

4. Don’t neglect the functions of the shampoo and conditioner

The foremost function of shampoo is to cleanse the scalp of oil. Keeping the scalp free of excess oil is vital for healthy hair growth. A build-up of oil can lead to clogged hair follicles and the development of a scalp condition called folliculitis, which is an irritation of the hair follicles. Unfortunately, hair follicle irritation can actually lead to hair loss. So, in order to keep the scalp free from oil and irritation, shampoo regularly. Don’t forget to also condition your hair every time you shampoo, so as to make sure your hair grows smooth and shiny. A conditioner will help seal the outermost layer of your hair shaft – the cuticle – to protect it from any potential damage.

5. Avoid the high ponytail

Sure, a ponytail does look awesome, making you feel like a professional. However, a high ponytail can actually hurt your hair follicles. Once your hair follicles are being stretched, they tend to get loose and you lose hair easily. Instead, you should keep your ponytail at a medium level. This helps to calm your hair, and your hair follicles won’t be under stress.

You’ll be delighted to know that Oriental Hair Solutions’s Hair Growth Scalp Therapy with Cold Light Laser can also help to regrow your hair through increasing blood flow in the scalp to stimulate the hair follicles. Celebrate Christmas with our promotion of two (2) sessions of this treatment at $28 (U.P. $808) and get a S$100 Service Voucher and an Anti Hair Loss Tonic, both complimentary! This promotion will end on 31 December 2018! Arrange your appointment with us soon!

Get healthy hair with the right foods

Everyone loves healthy hair, regardless of gender and age. Although there are some major factors that may influence the condition of your hair, such as genetics, age, hormones, nutrient deficiencies, you’ll need to know that what you eat is one of the few things you can do to control your hair’s condition.

To have a head of healthy hair does not depend only on the outside appearance of your hair but also on how healthy you are inside. According to experts, the good health of every part of the body, which also includes your hair health, depends on what you eat. By eating nutrient-rich foods that are scientifically proven to help your hair, you can greatly influence your hair’s thickness, growth or shedding, and even its likelihood of greying since the nutrients consumed by the body will fortify the hair follicles. A balanced diet consisting of nutrients like protein, vitamins and minerals will help to supply hair with all that it needs to remain shiny, lustrous and strong. Here are the right foods that you should be eating for healthy hair.

1. Salmon

Fishes like salmon, as well as sardines and mackerel, are packed with healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Since the body cannot make these healthy fats, you will have to get them from food or supplements. These fatty acids can protect you from diseases, but your body also needs them to grow hair, keeping it shiny and full.

2. Egg

Eggs are rich in biotin, a B vitamin essential for hair growth and overall scalp health. Because our bodies make their own biotin in the intestines and it is abundant in many common foods, deficiency is very rare. However, there are some cases in which people are very ill and don’t have use of their intestines, biotin deficiency can cause hair loss. Biotin is important for hair health, but there is no need for you to take supplements as long as you eat a balanced diet that includes high-biotin foods like eggs.

3. Spinach

Spinach is iron rich and it contains sebum, which acts as a natural conditioner for hair. Like so many dark green leafy vegetables, spinach is full of amazing nutrients such as omega-3 acids, magnesium, potassium, calcium and iron. These work together for a healthy scalp and mane, keeping your hair lustrous and shiny, and most importantly moisturized so it doesn’t break.

4. Sweet potatoes

Have dry hair that’s lost its shine? Sweet potatoes are filled with a good-for-you antioxidant called beta-carotene. Your body will turn it into vitamin A, which helps to protect against dry, dull hair. It also stimulates the glands in your scalp to make an oily fluid called sebum that keeps hair from drying out. You can also find this elixir of the locks in other orange-coloured fruits and vegetables like carrots, pumpkin, cantaloupe, and mangoes.

5. Bok choy

Dermatologists treating hair loss look at the level of ferritin in your blood, because they can deduce what your body is doing with all the iron they told you to add to your diet during your initial consultation. If you’d been eating plenty of iron-rich bok choy, they would likely see a spike in your ferritin levels.

6. Barley

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that can actually absorb damaging UV light and protect skin cells. It also repairs sun damage on the scalp, which can cause hair to thin. In one study where Tocotrienols, or different types of vitamin E supplements, were studied for eight months in patients with hair loss and the results showed that the supplemented group had a 34% improvement in hair growth. Although tocotrienols are difficult to get from diet alone, barley is a very good source.

The increase in intake of the right foods at each meal and with each meal can bring a tremendous change in our hair growth. If you follow a hair nutritious diet for at least half a year, it will definitely make your hair follicles strong and make your hair healthy and thick. So, leave aside the shampoos and conditioners, and start a healthy diet, and see the difference. You will just love yourself.

Benefits of ginseng detoxification

With all the unhealthy things we put into our bodies every day, we need a way to take in the good and of course, get rid of the bad – the environmental and metabolic toxins that cause us to feel tired, sluggish and healthy. Most importantly, the condition of our hair can be affected by our body’s condition.

Clean hair follicles are important to maintain healthy hair and promote hair growth. Hair products that we use on a daily basis can cause clogged pores, product build-up and dead skin that accumulate in our scalp can cause our hair to look dull, greasy as well as result in slower hair growth.

Since we can’t avoid the toxins, we can help our body to eliminate them. Starting with the hair, a periodic scalp detoxification with Ginseng is a good cleanse and drinking a lot of water will facilitate the elimination process. Ginseng is known to stimulate blood circulation thereby increasing the supply of blood to the follicles of hair. Enriched with nutrients which improve the hair growth significantly, the use of Ginseng can also enhance the proliferation of dermal papilla cells, thus helping the hair to regenerate faster.

Moreover, Ginseng is believed to have antioxidant properties, which can contribute to the health of our cardiovascular system and encourage healthy blood flow. By stimulating the blood flow in our scalp, the health of our hair follicles and cells can be improved. As such, hair growth is encouraged and hair loss is prevented.

A weak immune system is also one of the major reasons behind rapid hair fall. A healthy immune system will help your body fight off the infections and other diseases. Ginseng strengthens your immune system and improves the hair follicles to combat hair fall. Daily consumption of ginseng will help to increase the ability of our body to fight infections, viruses and diseases. It also contains powerful anti-inflammatory compounds, which help the natural healing process of our body. Ginseng strengthens your immune system and improves the hair follicles to combat hair fall. Below are the other benefits of using Ginseng for detox in general.

1. Facilitates weight loss

Ginseng regulates your blood sugar and boosts your energy levels, which helps you to fight fatigue and to become more active at the same time. It also helps to facilitate the process of burning carbohydrates, so as to prevent the body to store the excess as fats.

2. Prevents cancer and treats diabetes

The daily consumption of ginseng lowers drastically the risk of cancer. A study has also shown that ginseng improves the healing process in breast cancer patients, increasing the survival percentage. Ginseng is also useful in treating type 2 diabetes due to the presence of compounds which help to lower blood sugar levels in the body. Furthermore, it increases insulin sensitivity. Therefore, many people who suffer from diabetes use ginseng as an alternative treatment due to its benefits.

3. Lowers the risk of respiratory illness

Numerous studies have shown that those who consume daily ginseng extract or tea have a lower risk of cold, flu or any other respiratory illnesses. Ginseng also lowers the duration of recovery after the illness.

4. Maintains your youth

Ginseng contains powerful antioxidants that can keep your skin healthy and young. These compounds also keep your internal organs younger and add some more years to your life. Due to its many health benefits, many people often drink ginseng tea for longevity in China.

The best way to cleanse the body is with natural foods and herbs such as Ginseng that support the body’s processes of elimination and purification. Ginseng detoxification helps your body to get rid of the harmful toxins while boosting your immune system and energy levels. In addition, it nourishes and hydrates your body, keeping your cells young and facilitating regeneration.

To enhance your detoxification efforts, Oriental Hair Solutions’s Ginseng Scalp Detox Treatment is a must-try. For only $18, you not only can enjoy a session of this treatment, but you also get a S$100 Service Voucher and a 240ml Herbal Shampoo complimentary! This promotion is ending very soon!

Herbs and plants for hair growth

Hair loss is a dreaded topic to most and more common than you might think. Hair loss often strikes many people as the hair begins to thin in mid to late life. Some people have the idea that only males experience hair loss, but females are prone to thinning hair that can lead to bald spots.

Though around a third of the general population suffers from hair loss, little do people know that out there are many herbs and plant foods for hair growth! While hair loss can be detrimental to the way we feel about ourselves, we can eat foods that are good for us to help prevent hair loss. Oriental Solutions shares about some plant foods and herbs that you should start taking before hair loss even becomes an issue for you.

Plant Foods:

  • Avocado, hemp, chia seeds, coconut

Essential fatty acids are crucial to the health of our scalp and the rest of our body. Omega-3 and 6 in these fats help improve scalp circulation, nourish the hair follicle, prevent or reverse hair loss and increase the strength and thickness of our hair.

  • Berries, citrus fruits and red pepper

Getting enough vitamin C in your diet helps promote collagen production. Collagen surrounds the hair strands, but it breaks down as we age, making the hair brittle and more vulnerable to breaking.

  • Green leafy vegetables

Increasing your consumption of iron-rich foods can significantly help the look, feel, and overall health of your hair. Iron is essential for hair growth, as it helps improve the quality of our blood and promotes circulation of blood around the scalp.

Herbs:

  • Aloe Vera

This plant is excellent for the skin and hair, as well as promoting hair growth. Aloe contains more than 20 minerals and vitamins A, C, E, B1, B2, B6, and B12 which are all essential for hair growth. It is a hair growth stimulant and conditioning agent which contains an enzyme necessary for the stimulation of new hair growth. It is highly anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial which helps reduce things such as balding.

  • Rosemary

Rosemary and its essential oil form have been traditionally used for hundreds of years to increase circulation to the scalp and promote healthy hair growth. It is great to use on thinning and balding hair. Combine rosemary oil mixed with a bit of olive oil and apply directly to the scalp for best hair growth effect. Not only does it promote hair growth, but also helps to prevent hair from going prematurely grey and excellent for giving hair follicles the nourishment they need.

  • Ginseng

Ginseng is a popular Chinese herb that many know about for its stimulating effects on the brain and nervous system. A good news is that ginseng is great for stimulating hair growth too! It aids in scalp blood circulation and so good for hair growth that you will find this ingredient in many shampoos and hair tonics.

  • Ginger

Ginger has a natural ability to stimulate blood flow to the scalp which is incredibly important if you want to improve the quality and health of your hair. Improved blood flow stimulates the hair follicles and results in restored hair growth. Consuming ginger also helps!

Exercises For Hair Growth

Losing your hair certainly feels awful. Due to the modern sedentary lifestyle, a lot of men and women now suffer from hair loss. There are a number of reasons that lead to hair loss, such as age, environmental pollution, poor diet, stress or hormonal unbalance. You need to know that conditions which affect the body can also affect hair growth, since your hair health is a reflection of your overall health.

Beauty comes from the mind and a healthy mind leads to healthy living. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain a balance in your life. Exercise boosts body health and promotes a strong hair growth cycle. It also increases the blood flow to scalp and promote circulation around the scalp, resulting in better hair growth. Work these eight simple, easy to do exercises into your daily regime for hair growth and good health.

1. Jogging

Jogging allows you to sweat it out, which might actually be a good thing since sweat opens up the pores in your scalp and helps to flush out all the toxins that are harmful to the hair.

Cardio exercises such as jogging can help to increase blood circulation to the scalp and this blood flow promotes healthy growth of the hair. It is recommended to jog for at least half an hour every day in order to reap the excellent benefits that come with this exercise.

2. Scalp massage

One of the important and simple exercises is scalp massage. Another tip to improve hair growth is to give yourself a very relaxing and effective scalp massage. Not only are scalp massages relaxing, but you will also come out of it with strong and healthy looking hair. Scalp massages help increase blood flow to the scalp, which circulates all the essential nutrients to the hair follicles, encouraging hair growth eventually.

3. Neck exercise

Moving your head and neck side to side, as well as front and back may seem to be a good way to encourage hair growth. Stretching the neck muscles can also help hair growth by releasing any trapped tension and stress in the surrounding muscles. As blood circulation improves in these areas, the increased blood flow works to boost hair growth and fights any damage caused to the hair.

4. Acupuncture

This is a more non-conventional practice to rejuvenate and promote hair health. Acupuncture has actually shown to be effective in reducing hair loss. The exercise works to stimulate the pressure points on our fingers that encourage healthy hair, and of course including increased hair growth.

5. Upside down exercise

This can be one of the most interesting scalp exercises to boost hair growth and assist in growing the hair well. It might seem that you will have to keep hanging upside down. Though the concept is true, the process of doing this is different. Using your head, you will balance your body on a yoga mat. However, a word of caution here: do not try performing this without any help if you have a neck injury. Give yourself time to get this right. This may take some time, so be patient.

6. Rubbing your nails

Acupressure points in our body can result in good hair growth when properly treated. Pressing on these points revitalises the hair follicles and improves blood circulation to the scalp. Acupressure points associated with hair growth are located in the fingertips underneath the nails. Massaging these points can help to stimulate the hormones that promote hair growth and hair darkening. Besides treating hair loss, you will be delighted to know that rubbing your nails can help to alleviate dandruff and premature greying of the hair. When you press on the acupressure points often enough, the roots of the hair follicles supply energy needed for hair growth to the scalp.

7. Breathing exercise

Kapalbhati pranayama is the most well-known yoga form of breathing exercise that helps to oxygenate your body, while strengthening the muscles of your stomach and abdomen at the same time. As such, it can give the scalp all the oxygen that is needed to rejuvenate damaged hair and help new hair to grow. It is also known to cure hair loss problems.

8. Lifting your legs

Lifting up your legs in the air and holding it there regulates the working of the thyroid gland and provides the head with a good supply of blood. This exercise is good for people who are affected by hair fall and baldness due to hormonal imbalance.
